Let us shine brightly

Kate Richardson: Soliel

The stars are different somehow

It's your light reflected upon them

The reason they shine brighter than ever to me now

And it's enough for me to know

We're under the same stars at this moment

So I gaze upon them on a night like this hoping you don't miss

The message that I send to you by way of them….

Glow Exhibition

As the year comes to an end, we want to invite you to a warming exhibition that promises to bring us light. The selected artworks radiate a message that warms our hearts, brightens our souls, and makes life worth living. These works catch the eye and encourage our magpie-collecting spirit, saying if it glitters, it is gold. It is OK to embrace some glitz and make no apology for the joy and beauty it can give.

The wondrous Glow of winter—a season that naturally evokes a sense of reflection and stillness. With a luminous collection of new work from artists Kate Richardson, Helen Phoenix, Annabel Munn and introducing sculptural and ceramic works by Jack Durling and Tim Copsey.

Helen Phoenix

Helen Phoenix: The Fisher King

Our much-loved artist Helen Phoenix when asked to contribute to our end-of-year show, said the following–

Glow.. what to think, a sun of gold? A radiance.. a shimmer, the warmth of the day, iridescence. The flash of orange, the contrasting blues, the layering, the glazing… little kingfishers are a joy to paint.

Annabel Munn

Annabel Munn: The Barriers We Perceive IV

Annabel's works are highly collected. She discusses that the inspiration behind her pieces references regenerative walks around her coastal city home and captures illuminations from the setting sun in the city's historical architecture and modern towers and the fleeting nature and beauty of this reflected light.

Jack Durling

Jack Durling: Ducha, Sitting White Rhino

Capturing unique stories of animals in our world is the very essence of this collection. Jack has explored lustre and porcelain embellishments upon ceramic animal sculpture with warmth and glow. A sense of delicacy is captured, combined with the vivid use of colour. Honing in on their story, whether it be a narrative of conservation or more light-hearted, emotive respect and passion for wildlife are embodied in each piece.

Tim Copsey

Tim Copsey: Tokkuri I

We aim to elevate ceramics as an art form in its own right, focus on works that tell a story, and embrace the abstract vessel and sculptural qualities that clay brings. We have invited Tim to produce a collection inspired by our exhibition theme.

Tim's works oscillate between function and sculptural, and are often described as beautiful ugly. He hopes the work is playful, sometimes jarring, surprising, delightful and ultimately resonant with their materiality and the landscape from which they derive.

Kate Richardson

Kate Richardson: Harvest Moon

Kate's response to the invitation to produce a collection for Glow was not only to paint a series of stunning works but also to write some poetry to share with us.

Equinox

With the nights drawing in, it seems so late, as we continue to gather hay through the still evening.

One by one we see a great orange ball rising above a tree in the west. Look! Harvest moon!

Aching backs forgotten, it lifts our spirits, reminding us that we are privileged to work the land in our little community.

Time passes as slowly as it takes for the pregnant balloon to break free of the horizon.

Rocking and undulating, rising and shrinking to a smaller, brighter glow. Its own heartbeat drawing in the tide and casting fuzzy orange lines in the infinite saline.

And into the yard where we work.

By Kate Richardson

The exhibition starts on 19th November and continues until 19th December 2022. We hope you will find the time to visit the gallery or enquire about any artworks of interest.
