Mélanie Bourget
-
Born in Nantes, France, Mélanie Bourget began her artistic journey in street performance before transitioning to sculpture. In 2008, she honed her skills in ceramic techniques at the workshops of La Maison du Potier in Fuilet, France, eventually finding her passion in the ancient Japanese art of Raku.
Mélanie strives to unravel the mystery of the human soul and ordinary daily existence to highlight the essential: life. Her work illuminates this quest to expose the spirit and discover the very essence of humanity and individuality.
The women and men she sculpts transport us to a poetic, dreamlike elsewhere, so close yet somewhere else, a daily life tinged with imagination. Like a photograph, Mélanie captures movement and emotion, seizing gesture and expression to restore a face, a body, a being in its entirety.
Sometimes wise, sometimes serious, charming or even cheeky, accompanied or not by animals, flowers or ornaments, her subjects take on even more depth thanks to their finely detailed tattoos. At the crossroads of various styles, from vintage romantic to rebellious old school, these marks on the skin trace each character's journey and tell their story, leaving enough mystery to invite us to a very personal interpretation. The ancestral Japanese firing technique Raku reinforces these marks by cracking the enamel, creating paths of expression like the scars left by time, intimate witnesses of a personal story.
Mélanie has exhibited in Europe, the UK and the US. She lives and works in France.
